So, it seems the powers-that-be find an update is in order. So an update they’ll get.
Hello dear reader, its been a long time since I’ve seen you last… The clock’s gone by, tic-tock, tic-tock, tic-tock…
No, I didn’t die over the past few, long, weeks. I did, however, come very close one day. And since I really don’t know where to start, I’ll start with the most interesting.
I got into a car accident a few weeks back. Kind of sort of beat the hell out of Jen’s car too.
I was heading back to school one morning in Jen’s car (Jen in tow), when I, for some reason, decided it would be a wonderful idea to rear-end a Ridgeline… Well… Not so much.
Coming up onto a stop-light, I was slowing down at a reasonable pace when my foot slipped off the brake. I don’t know weather or not I hit the gas instead, it’s a moot point really. The damage done to the Ridgeline was quite minuscule. Some paint from Jen’s car, a small crack, and the back-up sensor got popped in. The sensor could be popped back out, and the paint rubbed off with a brillo-pad…
As for the crack?
. . .
Oh for christ’s sake! Jen’s car barely had a damn BUMPER! The grill was destroyed, both headlamps and the header panel as well too! The only reason the radiator didn’t go is because his hitch met square with the crash bar! I mean, her car ran, and runs, fine. No tracking issues, nothing. But really… I hate his fucking truck!
First, it had to get in my way! And second, it was fucking huge…
Geez, what a wonderful start to a day…
And as if it wasn’t bad enough I hit the guy out of the blue, he had his daughter with him! Luckily, everyone was fine (and for insurance purposes, continue to be).
Did I mention it was Jen’s car? Gah…
To make the day better, I accidentally pushed my laptop case off a table (only like a foot), which proved to be just enough to kill it outright… What do ya know, it gets better… I had an essay due the next morning, and my “research” was on my laptop…
And as if that wasn’t cool enough, I got a bill from the state New Hampshire for a speeding ticket back in 2005, that stated, in no simple words, that if I didn’t pay-up, I would most certainly be arrested…
That was all one day… And everything looked to be stable until Jen’s mother had to go in for surgery… The first phase went well, but she was right back in the next Monday, and will be for some time to come…
And then the tables turned…
Luckily, it goes against logic that bad luck should rule the world (even though it feels like it at the time), and things have been getting better…
The big thing on everyone’s mind right now is Jen’s mother, who is actually doing much better. She went in for what should have been a routine surgery to remove a benign mass from her stomach. When she got back, she looked to be doing quite well, and she was in high spirits when Jen and I left her on Sunday…
Unfortunately, high spirits aside, she wasn’t as good as we had hoped…
Evidently her surgery didn’t go as well as planned, and complications from the surgery arose… She got very sick Monday evening, and was rushed to Maine Medical Center for emergency surgery…
Hospital acquired infections have kept her there since, and it will be a full two to four months for her to make a full recovery… She is, however, doing QUITE well right now. Knock on wood.
As for the other items on my shit-list. It turns out that all that was wrong with my laptop was a loose stick of RAM, and after it was re-seated, all was well…
My joy at finding all was not lost led to a sudden increase in motivation, which drove me to write a stellar essay, crank out two rocking short essays, produce a kick-ass PSA, and design near 20 posters for the Social Committee.
Basically, it made me a lean-mean-productivity machine…
This is a new thing for me…
Jen’s car is at her place, and quite on the back burner. It will take about $900 to repair, but before we even think about that, we need to get Cathy out of the hospital…
My mom’s van broke too, just last night, but I don’t really consider this a bad thing… The thing had it coming, and now we are using John’s van (Jen’s father), in which I feel considerably safer…
So, pretty much, aren’t you sorry you asked?
