So, hows school, Mike?

Wow, I am so glad you asked.

It’s hot and cold actually.

In one corner you have Intro to Algebra, which is a crap course. As a matter of fact, its SU’s fault I’m even in a math course (mine for what I chose…). Basically, NESCom needed me to get another Math credit, and I wasn’t about putting a whole lot of effort into something I didn’t really need to, plus, it fit with my schedule…

In the world of bad choices… Yeah. For those of you out there looking to head into college in the relatively near future, don’t simply pick easy courses. They lead you down the wonderful roads of self-mutilation, and earnest quests towards suicide…

Then you’ve got Copywriting, which, unlike Copyrighting, has a “W” in it, and falls in the “writing intensive” category.

Actually, for all its faults, it’s actually a great class (when I decide to write). Much better than Marketing, which falls dead betwixt the two (primarily the fault of the teacher IMHO). The class I can put hours into, and fail in comparison to those who bullshit moments before class…

So you have got those three on one side, with and Graphic Design I, Web Design I, and Scene Study one the other end, doing all they can to maintain the very foundation of my sanity.

logoctone.pngGraphic Design is quite a bit of fun, barring the snotty teacher, Ms. Ayotte. I had her husband last fall, for Photography I, and then again in the spring for Video Production I. He is a cool guy, easy going, but the Misses, thats a big stick up there…

logocttwo.pngTo add direction to the class, each of the students had to make up a company that they would be creating the identity for over the semester. Naturally, I chose CoverThis Photography. What better way to spend a semester than developing the identity for a future business?

logoctthree.pngWhat you see here are the logos I designed for the class. I had to make four different logos in Adobe Illustrator for my “imaginary” company, as the first assignment. The first one is a variant of the current logo, below. A variant I do not like.

The second one was my first try at incorporating a silhouette into the logo, with the third being the more successful of the two.

There was a fourth, but it failed on all accounts, and was just there as filler, as I was pleased as punch with the third, and had already chosen it to be the primary logo for the semester.

It doesn’t matter either way, as I am sticking with my original design from last year anyway (above). Sure, I like the third one I made, and if I were starting from the beginning I would probably use it, but I’ve already settled down on the original. Perhaps, in the coming years, if CoverThis matures into a true company, perhaps then I will take the step.

Around Wednesday I will have a poster to show you as well. Actually, it’s the poster I’ll be bringing with me to Vegas this winter. Hells yes…

I’ve got nothing to show for Web Design, as I haven’t actually learned anything in that class. Shame…

Same for Scene Study. So it looks like Design is going to be the only thing cranking out interesting work for a bit…

Maybe I’ll get in the studio and make something beautiful… I need to.
