No Love…

Isn’t it always how it is? I go on a mini blogging vacation. Leaving my poor little website to sit and cry, alone, in the cold, dark, world wide web…

It’s pitiful… :-(

I am sorry, dear website… For your struggles, I shall show you some love.

Jen and I spent this past Saturday (the 5th) at Cony High School, in Augusta, helping judge the 2008 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament. We judged Division I & III of the DynoStories problem.

Talk about some intelligent Elementary School kids!

I used the experience to test out my new(ish) Holga. Came out of it with about 6 usable images, for the low low price of only $20! Jeezze… I am finding cheaper film, and a cheaper lab!

20080408----_0188.jpg20080408----_0189.jpg

Unfortunately, I ran out of film (so, 12 frames per roll? fun) and was unable to get any shots of the solutions. But I did get this priceless shot off between sessions.

This weekend I am going home for a bit, and I am pretty excited. My studio equipment finally arrived. I’ll be sure to tell you all about it… You know. Next month. :-D

2 + 3 = 5, right?

So, yeah. Third week into school and we’re still alive. That’s some thing to be proud of, right?

All the incoming students came in on the first, which was an image straight out of hell if there ever was one. Figure, there are 9 floors, 37 students per floor, with an average of 10 of them being incoming students. Thats not to say that only incoming students came in on the first either… That said, about 130 students arrived in Bell Hall (thats right, I’m only talking about one of three dorms) from 7am to about 11am on the first of September. Now, consider that each student is traditionally accompanied by Mom and Dad and you have tripled the foot traffic. Add another 80 or so for the odd brother, sister, aunt or uncle, and your looking at 400 pairs of feet, accounting for over 1000 trips trough the lobby, and nearly 45 personal attempts at suicide. Per RA. (in case you didn’t get that, that was a joke)

Moving on.

More Photos.

So there are new galleries from the past few weeks. Updates close at hand. Have been rather busy.

pause

I have been going back in time, tagging all my posts for technorati. I made it as far as A little late, and now I have got to go to the Portland Pirates game. GAH.

del.icio.us

I’ve been del.icio.us…ed… I recently signed up for a MyBlogLog account, and I never knew how helpful it would be. It just informed me that I got my first del.icio.us bookmark yesterday, by Dan Kantor. I do not know Dan, but clicking around leads me to believe he has something to do with the Streampad Widget, which I reviewed here. Rock on.

What the Hell!?

The Technorati Ranking System confuses the hell out of me. Can anyone tell me why, when I only had ONE link from ONE blog, I was ranked 1,919,393rd, yet when I am now listed as having FOUR links from TWO blogs (when I really only have 3 links from 2 blogs) I am listed 1,932,777th?! Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t that lower? (and yes, they are all inside the sample period to determine rank)

Eviction, and how it affects you…

You know it’s been a slow set of days when you get serious responses to photos like this:
Happy lunch

So, I narrowly missed getting evicted today…

Hows that for catching your attention?

Evidently I was quite literally “A day late and a dollar short.” Seven days and three-hundred dollars, to be exact. But I’m all set now, for those of you who care, with no ill effects. On this note I would like to inform you of the consequences of being evicted. I, myself, was not fully aware of such matters. However, it was rather nice of my landlord to provide me a paper with an easy to understand list:

1. Eviction Court: This will be humiliating, and a matter public record.
2. Dispossession: This also will be humiliating, and a matter of public record.
3. Judgments: This too will be humiliating, and a matter of public record.

I will tell you, the pamphlet was quite helpful and informative, I practically feel like I was there…

Actually, we were all served (Caleb, Danny and I) an eviction notice, and come to find it was primarily Danny’s fault, such a nice change. However, I am sure I didn’t help the matter.

God I have to get out of this house…

A thought on blogging…

I was reading up on the Technorati Ranking system this morning when I came across this interesting post and its accompaniment over at docsaab. And it got me thinking, why do we blog?

Embedding Music in your Blog…

You may have noticed -no steam shovel- has a bit of a sound-track now. Not just that same damn song, over and over. Some variety…

It took some time, but my quest for embedded blog music has come to an end with FineTune. Check the MORE link for more on the topic, and why I chose them over the competition…

For a good long while I have been looking in to embedded music for blogs to no real avail… I found a good number of embedded solutions, but none seemed to work the way I wanted them to.

Below you will find a few of our options, not really in any order, as well as a description and the pros and cons of each. As you may know, I hate paying for things, so all of these are free, and most importantly, legal. I believe I am about done adding content to this, so there shouldn’t be any more updates unless anyone has anything I should add to the subject.

In this post I will take a look at divShare, FineTune, last.fm, Radio.Blog.Club, Music Video Base, Sonific, the Streampad Widget and the Traditional Embed method for adding music to your blog…

[Note: Now updated with iMeem!]

A Thought on Raising the Dead…

Is there a particular method to coming back from the dead? I like to think not. First, it’s a fantastical occurrence (doesn’t happen… often…), and thing like that don’t really have methods. And second, when I wake up from a bad dream, as I would venture to assume death seams, I sit square up in my bed ready for action… I don’t just lay there in a lazy stupor, like I do most mornings…

This in mind, I suppose running right back in to blogging after over a months hiatus is similar to hastily frying up some eggs at 2am after waking with a start from a truly terrifying dream… Or something like that…

I’m game… I’m back from the dead… I just want readers.

In a similar vein, it seems as though winter has risen from the ashes as well. I woke this morning to find just about a foot of snow covering everything. Not something I like to see five days in to April, or in April at all for that matter. What the hell is going on? And I hear rumors of more on the way… Not a happy camper.

So I took pictures… :-D

Isn't it Supposed to be SPRING!?

Meg AllisonSteve ByrneOn another note, more of my posters got approved during the Student Government Social Committee meeting this afternoon. Now Pam has no excuse to not use them.

Also, come to find out, she doesn’t really like anybody, and nobody really likes her.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one…
