Music to my ears…

I had(have) to make a PowerPoint Presentation to test out of MI 120 here in the next few days, and one of the requirements was to make a quick song in Soundtracks to play behind some slides. So I made these two. Personally I like the second the best… But honestly… They both suck. Thats why I’m not an audio major…

A cold, wet, windy, weekend…

It’s funny. I was telling Jen the other day. I wanted to write an entry about my weekend, and when I started summing up what I had done, I lumped Friday and Monday into the mix as well. It’s sad when you have a three day work-week.

I really am a slacker…

We went to Jen’s house this weekend, seeings how we are going to mine, this coming weekend.

It was pretty relaxed, for the most part.

Before we left, I made the mistake of asking what we were going to be doing a few too many times. Alone, it’s an innocent question, but in mass… well… I guess it gets pretty trying…

That said, I made the second mistake of asking what was on the docket while sitting in Jen’s living room, and next thing I knew we were in the car, headed to some park in Saco that none of us had ever heard of.

Wet

It was cold. It was wet. It was windy. But it wasn’t half bad.

Sure, in the moment it was mildly miserable
, but it was good to get out, and she was right, it was better than sitting on the couch all afternoon…

Other than that, it was a pretty simple weekend. Which was good.

Jen got some much needed sleep, after two weeks of intense tests in some of the hardest undergrad classes Husson offers. We got to see Jens parents, and I got a few pictures.

We also go the opportunity to work out some things that have been bugging us. We got into a bit of an argument over a game of Bull Shit. Primarily about how we handle conflict, and how I support (or don’t) Jen.

At one point it got pretty heated. Luckily, Jen’s family is pretty laid back, and they actually helped us out a bit. Mediated, if you will, and in the end, we were better for it.

Now we’re going through the “what the hell is going on next semester!?” phase, as Jen finds out she needs 19 credits int he spring, plus and additional 3 credit Open Elective course. Basically, its going to be hell.

So, hows school, Mike?

Wow, I am so glad you asked.

It’s hot and cold actually.

In one corner you have Intro to Algebra, which is a crap course. As a matter of fact, its SU’s fault I’m even in a math course (mine for what I chose…). Basically, NESCom needed me to get another Math credit, and I wasn’t about putting a whole lot of effort into something I didn’t really need to, plus, it fit with my schedule…

In the world of bad choices… Yeah. For those of you out there looking to head into college in the relatively near future, don’t simply pick easy courses. They lead you down the wonderful roads of self-mutilation, and earnest quests towards suicide…

Then you’ve got Copywriting, which, unlike Copyrighting, has a “W” in it, and falls in the “writing intensive” category.

Actually, for all its faults, it’s actually a great class (when I decide to write). Much better than Marketing, which falls dead betwixt the two (primarily the fault of the teacher IMHO). The class I can put hours into, and fail in comparison to those who bullshit moments before class…

So you have got those three on one side, with and Graphic Design I, Web Design I, and Scene Study one the other end, doing all they can to maintain the very foundation of my sanity. Continue reading ‘So, hows school, Mike?’

2 + 3 = 5, right?

So, yeah. Third week into school and we’re still alive. That’s some thing to be proud of, right?

All the incoming students came in on the first, which was an image straight out of hell if there ever was one. Figure, there are 9 floors, 37 students per floor, with an average of 10 of them being incoming students. Thats not to say that only incoming students came in on the first either… That said, about 130 students arrived in Bell Hall (thats right, I’m only talking about one of three dorms) from 7am to about 11am on the first of September. Now, consider that each student is traditionally accompanied by Mom and Dad and you have tripled the foot traffic. Add another 80 or so for the odd brother, sister, aunt or uncle, and your looking at 400 pairs of feet, accounting for over 1000 trips trough the lobby, and nearly 45 personal attempts at suicide. Per RA. (in case you didn’t get that, that was a joke)

Moving on.

Aaaand we’re back… again…

Geez, keep taking these breaks… Have to get a handle on that.

So! Summer is finally here! Made it through another school year, I’m out of that damn apartment in Old Town, and I’ve got a new kitten. :-D

Meet Mali.

Summer is a kitten.

Sorry, couldn’t help it. She’s just so adorable. Stole her from my ex-roommates actually. Jen and I bought 4 cans of cat food, fed her one, left for two days, came back, and there were still 3 cans left… So I fed her some and waited to see if Caleb made a move to feed her. He didn’t. Fed her the next morning (both times being careful no one noticed, to see if anyone else cared to feed her), Caleb left for work, making no move, so I left for home. With the cat. And if you are reading this Caleb, tough.

:-D

Wow, that was all kinds of grammatically incorrect. Oh well.

So school is out and I am back to mowing. Every day. All day. From 8:30am till 6-9pm… And I enjoy it. :-D

God I am happy to be out for a bit. I mean, I love NESCom (MUCH more-so than SU), but I was dogging it there in the last few weeks. Mostly because of English (contrary to the stereotype of most Bloggers, I HATE structured writing…), which I was sure I would nearly fail.

That in mind, imagine my surprise when I received my grades the other day and pulled in a B+ or higher in every class but Intro to Media (C+). Yeah… That look you just made? Imagine mine…

Pretty much, everything is awesome right now, save the back of my hands, which are sun-burnt to the very edge of blistering…

I’ve spent fair amount of time with Jen the past two weeks. Once last Wednesday, then again this past weekend for my birthday, for a full two days. Makes me smile, real-big-like. I’m going back to Waterboro tomorrow night, Justin in tow, to catch a 1am showing of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 with Jen and the crew. Should be fun. And then we’re going kayaking next Tuesday.

You know, I think I could dig this woman. ;-)

Got some pretty cool stuff on my birthday. John and Cathy (Jen’s mum and dad) got me a remote-controlled helicopter, which absolutely kicks ass! I am in the process of calibrating the tail rotor over the past few days… Out of the box they are only roughly calibrated to stay straight, but if you want, you can fine tune it to stay more true (not spin around in circles). We’ll see how it turns out.

Jen’s Grandma got us tickets to WARPED TOUR 2007! Fucking right!

I played with Jen a bit (I got both tickets in my one card), and I think she actually believed I was going to take Justin with my spare. HA! Right…

Jen got me a “Meh.” shirt (much cooler than you think, I can assure you), and a book on photographic lighting. I only looked over the book briefly, but I can tell I am going to like it. I will review it after I get some time to go through it in detail…

And last, but not least, mom got me a watch (which I have yet to really wear, as I am afraid to dirty it), and some shirts…

But not just ANY shirts… Company shirts. Namely, CoverThis Photography. I really can’t describe them, so I will have to post a picture at some point. :-D

There was something else, but I can’t place it… :-/

Anyway, the past few days I have been dubbing around, trying to get Step Mania to work on this old laptop. Had a turn for the better this afternoon, but still not quite there. I’ll document it here in a few days.

Right now, however, I need a shower, and some aloe-vera. Just wanted to check in, tell you I’m not dead, and such. So, that said, have an evening…

And we’re back.

So, looks like summer decided to get off its fat ass and show up…

The first shot is from two weeks ago, but really, it looked the same up until last Friday. There was snow on the ground until just a few days ago…

Husson a few weeks ago...

And this one is of the exact same branch, at the same angle at the same focal length… This afternoon… It was like 70+ degrees out… Well, actually, I guess I was a little closer in the second shot, but whatever…

Oh what a beautiful day...

It is about damn time…

I have a SHIT ton of work to do this weekend. I have a business plan to write up by 5 this afternoon… Did you catch that? :-( I have a video to finish by April 10th… I have a video to shoot by next Tuesday. I have a research paper to write by Monday. I have commercial product shots to shoot by Tuesday. I have two sites to design by Monday. I am shooting the hypnotist this evening, and I need to set up at 8:30. And to top it ALLLLLL off, it is Jen and I’s 6 month. Well, it was the 16th, but we agreed to celebrate this weekend…

Wow… It seems like an awfull lot of work when I writ it out like that… Gah…

Tims are no good for rain…

If you know me, you’ll probably know I have a nice pair of red suede Timberlands that I just adore. You’d know this because I wear them alot, and they kind of look like a set of clown shoes…

Well, come to find, although such things are marketed by Timberland as “boots” they actually serve no such functionality at all. And when faced with even a mild shower, such as the one we are receiving today, they like to let your feet get in on the fun too.

Gah! Some weather. At least what we are getting now is more in tune with the whole “April showers bring May flowers” thing. Its just a bit cooler, and comes accompanied with a dash or two of snow…

So, I’m in Digital Imaging for the Web I right now… Some kind of crap class…

Shady Acres - full

Shady Acres - skyscraperShady Acres - squareOur last project was to design six animated gifs, and now we have to design two splash pages and three content pages for our final project. Our final project is to pick one of each and make a “functional” web page. I quote functional because I suppose its up for interpretation. If your idea of “functional” is a page that meets minimum design requirements for 1998, then your set to sit in this class…

Shady Acres - half

The pages we are to create are essentially just sliced up Photoshop documents, exported to HTML. Which is hokey-poky, HTML 1.0, table crap. And the kids in my class act like it’s the end of the world…

My company (fictional, and if there is any likeness to ANY site on the net, it’s an act of God) is Shady Acres, Assisted Living for old People. These flashy things are my animated gifs… Hope you have a seizure…

I already threw together the design I am going to use for my final project. You can find that here. As for my splash page, give me a minute… I am sure it won’t be hard…

I’m going to throw a few “templates” together in the next few moments, wish me luck… ;-)

Mid-Term and Next Semester.

So, half a semester down at the good old N.E.S. of C.O.M. Lets see what the score is, shall we?

Course Name Mid-Term Exam Mid-Term Grade
Interpersonal Communications B A-
Introduction to Theater n/a B+
General Psychology A+ C
Digital Photography n/a C
English Composition B B+

All in all I am pleased with my grades at the mid term. General Psychology is low due to the fact that there has only been one assignment in that class, and the paper was late… Digital Photography on the other hand, there is no excuse. I practically own that class, I just missed an assignment.

As for next semester, I wrote my schedule on Tuesday. Here it is:

Course Name Days Times
Video Production I Mondays 9:00-11:00am
Digital Imaging for the Web Mondays 5:30-8:30pm
Approaches to Literature Mondays and Wednesdays 11:00-12:15pm
Digital Photography II Tuesdays 9:00-12:00pm
Video Production I [Lab] Tuesdays 1:00-4:00pm
Intro to Media Thursdays 6:00-9:00pm
Adbsolutely Nothing Fridays All Day

There you have it. Looks like its going to be a pretty sweet semester. Next we are all looking for a house. Doing the math, a student at NESCOM would be making pure profit if they were paying $530 or less per month on housing. That leaves our options WIDE open… So we’ll see where that takes us.

Also, I found a place to Intern/Work next semester (I hope). Image Works. I’ll tell you more about them later. Basically, my room mates brother works there, and with any luck, my room mate and I will too.
